Police have arrested three people over the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, a phone dealer at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The suspects have been named as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai.
Their arrest followed investigations by the Police Missing Persons Unit after Mr Kyere was reported missing on September 22.
According to the Ghana Police Service, preliminary investigations show that Mr Kyere left his residence at Kokomlemle on September 19 in his Honda Civic but did not return.
Police say he was allegedly lured to the residence of Philip Tefe at Teshie Agbleza by Sarah Osei Adams.
Investigators said Tefe and Adams later confessed to their involvement.
According to the police account, Tefe allegedly attacked Mr Kyere during a confrontation and struck him with a metallic object, causing injuries.
The victim was then reportedly moved to another room, where he was left unattended.
Police say he later died.
Investigators further allege that Mr Kyere’s body was transported in a Kia Morning on September 20 to a location near the motorway.
The body was allegedly dumped in a bush and set on fire.
A partially burnt body was discovered at Community 18 on September 21.
Police said the remains were formally identified at the Police Hospital mortuary on September 24 by the victim’s biological mother and an uncle.
The police also recovered Mr Kyere’s iPhone 12.
Investigators allege that Tefe sold the phone for GH¢100.
The alleged buyer, Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained on suspicion of dishonestly receiving the phone.
Police said further investigations led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai over his alleged role in the disposal of the body.
A Kia Morning belonging to Obodai’s father, and believed to have been used to transport the body, has been impounded.
The three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be put before court.
Police say investigations are continuing to identify and arrest any other persons who may have been involved.
