A routine security operation has led to the arrest of a taxi driver allegedly involved in drug trafficking in the Greater Accra Region.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, officers from the Ghana Police Service’s National Highway Patrol Unit intercepted a Hyundai i10 taxi, registered GW 9832-22, as part of a targeted intelligence-led operation. Behind the wheel was Ernest Mohammed Adjiri, who is now at the centre of a drug-related investigation.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered three fertilizer sacks packed with 120 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary questioning at the scene reportedly led Mr. Adjiri to confess ownership of the contents.

Authorities have since taken him into custody. He is currently assisting with ongoing investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court soon.

Police say the arrest forms part of intensified efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking across Ghana’s road networks.
