Police arrest driver in video assaulting sex worker

The Police in Cape Coast have arrested a 42-year-old driver who was captured in a video assaulting a sex worker on March 6, 2022.

According to a Police statement, the victim lodged a complaint of assault at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast.

The suspect, Godwin Bayor is in the custody of the Police, assisting investigations.

He was said to be driving a government-registered Mahindra vehicle with a number plate, GV 127- 16.

The Police have said further investigations would be communicated.

One of the known personalities who shared the video on social media, calling out the Police to investigate the incident was Bridget Otoo, a journalist with Accra-based Metro TV.

She has subsequently asked people to donate funds to support the victim.

The incident has also had people talking on social media about protection for sex workers and victims of abuse.
