Police arrest 89 for election-related offences nationwide

During a press briefing on Monday, December 9, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, disclosed, “So far, 89 suspects have been apprehended in connection with different offenses. Of these, 40 are linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and the destruction of state property. All those arrested are in custody and will be subjected to the legal process.”
ACP Ansah-Akrofi also issued a warning to deter others from engaging in violent activities, emphasizing that anyone involved in such actions would be arrested and prosecuted.
She added that the police have rolled out security measures to prevent further disturbances and are ready to implement additional strategies if needed to maintain order in the aftermath of the elections.
The police also confirmed incidents where unknown assailants attacked the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) headquarters in Kanda, Accra, as well as the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, sparking concerns about public safety.
