A police operation in the Northern Region has led to the arrest of 11 people, among them a 17-year-old, as officers intensified efforts against suspected internet fraud and drug activity.

The raid was carried out on 30 March 2026 by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team under the leadership of Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, with Yung and Wamale identified as the main target areas.

Police say nine of those arrested are believed to be linked to internet fraud. According to the Regional Command, all the suspects are Nigerian nationals.

Items seized during the operation included nine laptops, 11 mobile phones, three SIM cards and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Luckman, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, the command said the devices and other exhibits are suspected to have been used in cyber-related offences and drug peddling.

The suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.

Although police have not yet disclosed the specific form of online fraud under investigation, they say the arrests form part of a wider drive to disrupt organised criminal activity in the region and strengthen the fight against cybercrime.
