The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana has issued a stern warning to its members, declaring that it will revoke the licenses of any pharmacist found engaging in the unlawful sale or distribution of opioids.

The increasing misuse of opioids has raised national alarm, prompting a government-led crackdown aimed at safeguarding the nation’s workforce and curbing the growing threat of drug abuse.

Addressing journalists on Friday, April 11, Dr. Samuel Donkor, president of the Pharmaceutical Society, emphasized the seriousness of the issue and the society’s commitment to enforcing strict disciplinary action.

“The regulatory authorities will not spare anyone involved in this illicit drug trade,” Dr. Donkor stated. “Whether you operate a community pharmacy or a wholesale outlet, your licence will be revoked if you are caught. Pharmacists themselves are also at risk of suspension if found culpable.”

He further noted that the Society is intensifying public education efforts while maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against illegal drug dealings.

“We will not compromise on this. Anyone involved in the illegal sale of opioids will face the full consequences,” he warned.
