Parliament to reconsider 2022 budget today
Majority announced in a statement that the actions of the Minority was unconstitutional and had to be rejected.
Days after the Minority caucus in Parliament voted to reject the 2022 budget, the House is expected to reconvene today to continue processes on the subject, including either approving or rejecting the budget.
Last Friday [November 26], the Minority in Parliament rejected the budget in a voice count, after the Majority caucus staged a walkout.
Shortly after this though, the Majority announced in a statement that the actions of the Minority was unconstitutional and had to be rejected.
“For the record, the acts of the Minority and the decision of the Speaker to endorse it, constitute an unconstitutionality and an illegality and should be disregarded, as same is void and of no effect whatsoever”.
In later developments, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has urged the Finance Minister to revise the budget, such revisions as to include the suspension of the e-levy, make allocations for the construction of the Blekusu sea defense project, withdraw the Agyapa deal, among others.
It nonetheless remains to be seen, if the Finance Minister will present the same budget or a revised one. It is also a possibility that Parliament institute its own processes to deal with these matters.
