Parliament composes Appointments Commitee to vet President's nominees
The Committee will be led by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor as Chairperson, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah taking on the role of Vice Chairperson.

Parliament has given the green light to the formation of its Appointments Committee, an essential body responsible for reviewing and recommending individuals nominated for ministerial and high-ranking government roles.
The Committee will be led by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor as Chairperson, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah taking on the role of Vice Chairperson. Key members include Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who is the ranking member, and Patricia Appiagyei, who is the deputy ranking member.
The Appointments Committee serves a critical function in evaluating nominees proposed by the President for positions such as ministers of State and Deputy Ministers. Their thorough review process ensures nominees meet the required standards before parliamentary approval, guided by constitutional and legislative provisions.
During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Majority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized the importance of the committee's structure.
“The committee respectfully recommends that the House adopt this report and approve the membership of the Appointments and Business Committees as proposed, based on the ratio of 183 to 88,” he remarked.
This decision paves the way for the committee to conduct rigorous vetting, ensuring integrity and transparency in the approval process.
With this framework in place, the committee’s work will play a crucial role in shaping the leadership team that will help implement President Mahama’s agenda for his new term.
