OSP to assess Sammy extortion claims against Afenyo-Markin
In a public notice issued on August 24, 2026, the OSP said it had taken note of the public allegations and would determine whether the matter falls within its statutory mandate.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor says it is assessing allegations of extortion and related conduct made against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin by Ghana Gold Board Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
In a public notice issued on August 24, 2026, the OSP said it had taken note of the public allegations and would determine whether the matter falls within its statutory mandate.
The Office said the nature of the claims requires an initial assessment before any decision is taken on further investigative steps.
“Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted,” the notice said.
The OSP also confirmed that it had received a joint petition from two individuals concerning the matter.
It said two other separate petitions had also been submitted by other persons over the same allegations.
The development means the OSP is at the preliminary assessment stage, where it reviews the complaints to determine whether a full investigation should be opened.
This process is consistent with Regulation 5 of L.I. 2374, which governs preliminary inquiries by the Office.
The allegations have not yet been established.
The OSP’s statement indicates that it will first decide whether the complaint properly falls within its legal mandate before taking any further action.
