Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been removed from the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) wanted list following a decision to rescind his fugitive status.

This reversal comes after the OSP initially declared him wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement.

A new statement from the OSP confirmed that Mr. Ofori-Atta has officially communicated a date for his voluntary return. Consequently, the declaration against him has been lifted, pending his scheduled reappearance.

However, the OSP warned that should he fail to appear on the agreed date, his name will be reinstated on the wanted list, and legal measures will be pursued to ensure his return.

The accusations stemmed from several high-profile cases, including the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC agreement, payments related to the National Cathedral, the procurement of ambulances, and the handling of the Tax Refund Account.

Earlier in the day, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin informed Parliament that the former minister is expected back in Ghana by May 2025 following medical treatment abroad.

His legal team confirmed their engagement with the OSP, stating in a letter that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical assessment and possible surgery necessitate a recovery period of approximately six to eight weeks.

This latest development marks a shift in the legal narrative surrounding the former finance minister as authorities await his return.
