The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Teffey has filed a notice of appeal at the Sekondi High Court to challenge the court’s order for her to produce documentary evidence of renunciation of her Ivorian Citizenship.

The MP was expected to produce the document to the Sekondi Court on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Hon Affo-Teffey was ordered by the Sekondi High Court presided by Justice Dr. Richmond Osei Hwere on June 22, 2021, to produce evidence of renunciation of her Ivorian citizenship for the court’s inspection.

Background

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) member of parliament won the Jomoro parliamentary seat in the 2020 general election.

However, after the election, a suit was filed by Joshua Emuah Kofie, a resident of Nuba-Mpataba in the Jomoro Constituency, who has accused the MP of holding dual citizenship prior to the 2020 election.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey however has refuted the petitioner’s claims and told the court that she is no longer in possession of an Ivorian passport.

She was ordered by the Sekondi court in its last sitting on the case to produce documentary evidence of renunciation of her Ivorian Citizenship.

The Court of Appeal is expected to sit on Monday, July 26, 2021, for the MP’s counsel to move the motion on the stay of execution.
