ORC deploying practitioners to help insolvent companies-Registrar
Acting Registrar Maame Samma Peprah announced during a visit to the Ashanti Regional Minister that the ORC is actively deploying registered insolvency practitioners to help companies facing insolvency avoid immediate liquidation.

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) is ramping up its mandate to support local businesses in financial crisis, with renewed efforts to implement corporate rescue mechanisms under the Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring Act, 2020.
Acting Registrar Maame Samma Peprah announced during a visit to the Ashanti Regional Minister that the ORC is actively deploying registered insolvency practitioners to help companies facing insolvency avoid immediate liquidation.
The ORC’s Insolvency Services Division is tasked with regulating these practitioners, providing companies with options such as restructuring and administrative support before liquidation becomes a last resort. Peprah emphasized that the goal is to protect investments and ensure business continuity to stimulate the Ghanaian economy.
In a related development, the ORC is finalizing the rollout of a digital application aimed at streamlining business registration processes. According to Peprah, “The app will soon allow entrepreneurs to register their businesses from the comfort of their homes, removing bottlenecks and reducing reliance on intermediaries.”
She added that the app has undergone testing and is expected to be piloted soon, forming part of broader digital reforms within the office.
To complement these initiatives, the Registrar's office has also begun field operations to enforce compliance, focusing on business permit renewals and annual return filings.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, lauded the ORC’s intervention, noting it was a much-needed step toward a more structured business environment. “The initiatives outlined are timely and will bring clarity and order to the business space,” he said.
Dr. Amoakohene also highlighted the challenges entrepreneurs face when seeking government assistance without proper business registration. “Many businesspeople visit my office for support, but quite a number lack official registration. I’ve had to direct them to register to access the help they need,” he added.
