The trial of Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, the former CEO of Ghana COCOBOD, concerning the GH¢271 million fertilizer deal has been postponed to October 14, 2024.

The court announced that the proceedings would resume after the legal vacation, which lasts from August 1 to the second week of October.

During the session, the defense attorney informed Justice Aboagye Tandoh that the witness scheduled to testify was unable to attend due to illness.

Dr. Opuni and Agongo, the CEO of Agricult Ghana Limited, are on trial for allegedly engaging in illegalities in a series of fertilizer transactions which the Attorney-General (A-G) says caused a financial loss of GH¢271.3 million to the state.

They were thus dragged to court by the A-G in March 2018 on 27 charges, including willfully causing financial loss to the state, defrauding by false pretense, contravention of procurement laws, corruption of a public officer, and money laundering.

After the retirement of Justice Clemence Honyenuga who presided over the case for almost five years, the case was transferred to Justice Anokye and subsequently to Justice Aboagye Tandoh who is currently presiding over the case.
