One killed, several arrested in Kumasi anti-robbery operation

A high-stakes police operation in Kumasi has led to the death of one armed robbery suspect and the arrest of ten others linked to a string of violent home invasions across several suburbs in the Ashanti Region.

The special anti-robbery exercise, launched by the Ashanti Central Regional Police Command in partnership with the KNUST Police District, targeted suspects involved in robberies in Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Denchemuoso, and Apiadu.

During a press briefing, Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe revealed that the operation, carried out on the morning of Friday, June 27, resulted in a deadly exchange of gunfire, leaving one suspect fatally wounded. Another, Bernard Owusu Ansah, alias “Hot Boy,” sustained gunshot injuries and is under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Nine other suspects — Kwadwo Kyei Baffuor, Joseph Oppong (alias Joe), Kwadwo Konadu, James Asare Boateng, Emmanuel Asiedu, Maxwell Gyimah, Kelvin Adomako (alias Chemical), and Daniel Dwumor — were arrested at various locations including Ejisu-Hwereso and Bantama. One suspect, identified as Yahaya Nuhu, remains at large.

A cache of items was seized during the operation, including three vehicles, pistols, pump-action and double-barrel guns (some loaded with live ammunition), laptops, phones, ID cards, wristwatches, face masks, and an internet router.

“These suspects are in lawful custody and will be arraigned in court shortly,” DCOP Teye-Cudjoe confirmed, adding that police are intensifying efforts to capture the remaining fugitive.

He further urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible intelligence that could help in curbing crime across the region.
