Okada rider remanded over Afari Military Hospital site theft

A 24-year-old commercial motorbike rider has been remanded over an alleged theft at the Afari Military Hospital construction site in the Ashanti Region.
Abukari Usman appeared before the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, but his plea was not taken.
He is expected back in court on June 2, 2026, while police continue investigations.
The court, presided over by Robert Addo, heard that the complainant, Frederick Ocloo, is the Liaison Coordinator at the construction site.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, prosecuting, said the incident happened at about 4:00pm on May 17, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the site’s Security Supervisor, Prince Agyei, saw the accused entering the premises through a nearby bush.
He raised an alarm.
The prosecution said Usman allegedly dropped a sack containing stolen cables and attempted to escape.
Mr Agyei chased and arrested him before handing him over to the complainant for further checks at the site.
An inspection later showed that the padlock to one of the containers had been damaged.
The padlock was valued at GH¢200.
Some electrical cables were also found to have been stolen, although their value is yet to be determined.
Usman was handed over to the Nkawie Police.
After preliminary investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
