The criminal case against former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and seven others will return to the High Court in Accra on October 29, 2026, following a private session involving the judge and lawyers.

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng requested an in-camera hearing when the case was called on Tuesday, September 29. Justice Francis Apangabonu Achibonga met the lawyers in his chambers before returning to announce the adjournment.

Mr Ofori-Atta and his former Chief of Staff, Ernest Darko Akore, are currently domiciled in the United States. All the other accused were present in court.

At the previous hearing on August 27, the court had granted the prosecution more time to serve the two men with summonses in the US.

The case concerns revenue assurance contracts between Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The Office of the Special Prosecutor alleges that corruption linked to the arrangements caused financial losses exceeding GH¢1.4 billion.

Mr Ofori-Atta faces 28 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences. He was initially charged alongside the other accused on a total of 78 counts in November 2025, before the charges were amended.

The remaining accused are former GRA Commissioners-General Emmanuel Kofi Nti and Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah; former Customs Division Commissioners Isaac Crentsil and Kwadwo Damoah; Mr Akore; SML chief executive Evans Adusei; and the company itself.

The accused who have been served with summonses and have been attending court have pleaded not guilty. Mr Ofori-Atta and one other accused have yet to enter pleas.
