No more Mini Calls: Lawyers to be called in October, March in same style, form, funfair
Under the new structure, lawyers called in March will go through the same pre-call activities, including the Call Dinner, as those in the October Call.
The General Legal Council has agreed to cancel and rebrand the so-called “Mini Call,” replacing the term with “March Call” in a move the Chief Justice says is intended to eliminate the negative label often associated with that route to the Bar.
Speaking at the induction ceremony for more than 1,500 students at the Accra campus of the Ghana School of Law, the Chief Justice explained that some candidates may be eligible for call but still require additional time for administrative checks, such as re-marking or re-tallying, before their results can be confirmed and their qualifications formally cleared.
He noted that it is unfair for such candidates to be subjected to negative perceptions simply because they are presented under the “Mini Call” category. This concern, he said, informed the Council’s decision to abolish the distinction.
