Nkawkaw: Three arrested for looting sardines after highway crash

Police at Nkawkaw have arrested three people accused of stealing cartons of sardines from a crashed cargo truck on the Accra–Kumasi highway at Kwahu Fodua in the Eastern Region.
The articulated truck, a fully loaded container registered AA 119CY, was travelling from Accra towards Kumasi when it overturned and blocked traffic in both directions. The driver and his mate were on board and sustained injuries.
Preliminary police findings suggest the driver swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road, causing the container to topple onto its side.
The accident drew a large crowd of residents and passing motorists. While some joined efforts to clear the obstruction and help with towing arrangements, three individuals were allegedly seen removing cartons of sardines from the overturned container.
They were detained on the spot and handed over to the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command.
The injured driver and his mate are receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw, as investigations into both the crash and the alleged theft continue.
