Nkawie court grants two friends 100k bail each over gold ore theft
The court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, granted each of them bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties. They are expected to return to court on July 20, 2026.
A midnight incident at the Asanko Gold Mining Limited site at Esaase has landed two young men before the Nkawie Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy and stealing.
Paul Udeze, 27, and Robert Mensah, 26, are accused of attempting to leave the mining site with eight sacks of gold-bearing materials.
The two have pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, granted each of them bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
They are expected to return to court on July 20, 2026.
The prosecution says the accused persons are friends and illegal miners who live at Tetrem, a community near Esaase in the Amansie West District.
Police Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan told the court that the complainant, Jonas Alban, works as Security Supervisor of Asanko Gold Mining Limited.
According to the prosecution, the incident happened at about midnight on June 15, 2026.
Mr Alban and some of his colleague security guards were on duty when they allegedly saw the two accused persons carrying sacks from the mining site.
The sacks were said to contain eight portions of gold ore.
The value of the materials has not yet been determined.
The security team arrested the two men at the scene and later handed them over to the Ahwerewa Police.
Police say the accused persons admitted the offences in their caution statements.
They were subsequently charged after further investigations.
