Nkawie: Police arrest suspect in violent robbery of mobile money vendor

Police in the Nkawie Division have taken into custody Kwabena Bioh, the man alleged to have shot and robbed a mobile money operator at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region. His suspected accomplice is still on the run.

According to police sources, the attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. on November 27, 2025, when Bioh and an unidentified accomplice reportedly confronted Akua Afriyie, a 40-year-old vendor, and robbed her before opening fire.

Afriyie sustained two gunshot wounds to her lower right abdomen. She was initially rushed to the Essuowin Model Health Centre by her sister, Georgina Antwi, before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care.

Antwi later reported the incident to the Nkawie Divisional Command, prompting police to visit the health facility where the victim was receiving treatment.

Investigators say Bioh was arrested shortly after the report was filed, while a manhunt has begun for the second suspect.

Police say efforts to apprehend the fugitive accomplice are ongoing.
