Four other suspects remain at large.

All nine pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm. The court adjourned the case to October 22, 2025.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, told the court that police are pursuing additional suspects believed to have taken part in the assault.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, Mutala Yayaa, a trader and sub-chief of Weija, resides at Darkuman. On September 10, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m., Yayaa and some of his attendants went to Darkuman Cable and Wireless to visit acquaintances.

Upon reaching an area known as Bolga, the accused allegedly confronted him, questioning his “authority” to move about with his attendants. When Yayaa refused to comply with their order to sit, the group allegedly attacked him, inflicting multiple deep cuts on his head and body.

The complainant reported the incident to the Darkuman Police, where he was issued a medical form for treatment. The matter was later referred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra for further inquiry.

On September 11, 2025, the complainant returned with the completed medical form, after which police traced and arrested the suspects at their hideout. In their caution statements, all nine denied the allegations.

Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects to assist in the investigation.
