US rapper Nicki Minaj has reportedly begun legal action against Nigerian influencer Dr Penking after an online dispute over a video shared on X.

Reports say the case centres on allegations of cyberbullying and copyright infringement, although public court filings were not cited in the reports reviewed.

The clash began after Dr Penking reposted an old clip of the rapper with the comment that she had “gotten old” and should retire. The post quickly drew attention online and triggered a response from Minaj herself.

In her reply, Minaj challenged his right to use the footage and accused him of using it to target and harass her. She also said he had been added to a legal case.

Dr Penking, however, pushed back, saying his comment was a personal opinion protected by freedom of expression. He said he would not be intimidated by celebrity pressure and was prepared to respond to any legal papers served on him.

The dispute has added to a broader debate over how far online commentary can go before it crosses into harassment, and whether reposting old celebrity content without permission can expose social media users to copyright claims. Based on the reporting currently available, the public detail is limited mainly to the exchange on X and follow-up media reports, rather than published court material.
