The Judicial Service has commissioned a new court facility in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

Until the commissioning of the facility, residents of the district had to travel to Jirapa or Wa to access courts.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Justice Alhaji Yussif Asibey, the supervising High Court Judge of Wa, who represented the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, said distance would no more be a hindrance to accessing justice when the court facility becomes operational.

“The court will have Juvenile and Family Tribunals where matters involving juvenile, marital and maintenance issues could be settled,” he indicated.

Adding he said, there would be an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system at the court, so individuals can access timely and cost-effective settlement of cases.

“Where appropriate and applicable, cases could be withdrawn from the Court for an amicable settlement. The terms of settlement filed by the parties could be adopted by the Court as their Consent Judgment.”

The Jirapa Magistrate Court Judge, Mr Baba Issahaku Iddi, would play a supervisory role over the Nadowli-Kaleo Magistrate Court until a substantive Judge is appointed.

Funded by the District Assembly, the facility includes a Courtroom, Secretariat, and accommodation for the Magistrate.
