Motorbike rider jailed 10 years for defiling five-year-old boy
The convict, 23-year-old Baffour Kwakye, entered a guilty plea partway through the proceedings, prompting the court to deliver an immediate custodial sentence.
A commercial motorbike rider has been handed a 10-year prison sentence by the Bekwai Circuit Court after admitting to sexually assaulting a five-year-old boy in the Amansie West District.
The convict, 23-year-old Baffour Kwakye, entered a guilty plea partway through the proceedings, prompting the court to deliver an immediate custodial sentence.
Prosecutors told the court that the boy, a Class One pupil, lived in the same community as Kwakye at Manso Nkwanta. On 6 May 2025, Kwakye asked the child to run an errand and later persuaded him into his room, claiming he wanted to show him a video on his phone. It was inside the room, investigators said, that the assault took place.
The child later disclosed the incident to his mother, Akosua Kisiwaa, who lodged a report with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). A medical examination subsequently confirmed the abuse, triggering a search for the suspect.
Kwakye evaded arrest until 20 July 2025, when he was picked up at Manso Nkran over a separate theft allegation. Police discovered he was wanted for the earlier assault case and transferred him to DOVVSU at Manso Nkwanta. He later admitted the offence in his caution statement.
Delivering judgement, Presiding Judge Honour Isaac Appietu imposed a sentence of 120 months’ imprisonment, describing the offence as grave and the impact on the young victim as deeply troubling.
The conviction brings an end to a case that has drawn concern across the community, with police urging parents to report suspected abuse promptly.
