Silas Osei Boateng, a promising young Ghanaian, has been elected Vice President of the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association (MTYBA).

MTYBA is an organization for young barristers in the United Kingdom. It is dedicated to supporting the transition from Middle Temple student to barrister during the crucial first seven years of legal practice.

The elections were held on 26th March 2025, where Silas contested against three British candidates and emerged victorious. His win is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and commitment to advocacy within the legal profession.

In 2022, Silas made history by becoming the first person of color elected as the Debate Officer of the Middle Temple Students’ Association of England and Wales.

About Silas Osei Boateng

Silas was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2022 after a remarkable journey that began at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). 

He later advanced his legal education at the University of Law (UK), where he completed the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), Bar Practice Course (BPC), and Master of Laws (LLM).

Silas joined the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in 2021. Middle Temple—one of the four Inns of Court in the UK—holds the exclusive right to call Bar course students to the Bar of England and Wales.

A proud member of the British Ghanaian Lawyers Union (BGLU), an association of Ghanaian legal professionals in the diaspora, Silas continues to advocate for the interests of Ghanaian and African legal minds both in the UK and globally.

About the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association (MTYBA)

MTYBA exists to support young barristers throughout the early stages of their legal careers. Its three core aims are:

To assist those who have been called to the bar but are yet to secure pupillage.

To encourage and support members undergoing pupillage.

To advocate for and support barristers in their first seven years of practice, regardless of age.

MTYBA actively represents the interests of its members on broader issues affecting the legal profession. Through a dynamic calendar of events, opportunities, and award schemes, the Association creates meaningful platforms for learning, networking, and professional development.
