A 20-year-old mechanic, John Teye, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court after admitting to charges of unlawful entry and attempted theft.

Presiding Judge, Kwasi Apiatse Abaidoo, handed down the sentence after Teye pleaded guilty to both offences. He was convicted under Section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) for unlawful entry, and Section 18(1) for attempted theft.

Chief Inspector John Brahene, who led the prosecution, told the court that the incident occurred on the afternoon of April 29, 2025, in Yokwenor, a community within Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.

According to the facts, the complainant, John Lawer, had locked his room and left briefly to run an errand. During his absence, a neighbour noticed suspicious activity and discovered that someone had broken into Lawer’s room.

The neighbour raised an alarm, drawing the attention of other residents who promptly intervened and found Teye inside the room. He was immediately detained and handed over to the police.

During interrogation, Teye confessed to breaking into the room to steal a fan.

Teye was formally charged and brought before the court after the investigation and his confession. Judge Abaidoo emphasized that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
