Mason remanded after two-year-old girl found in his room

A two-year-old girl’s cry from a room in a compound house at Ogome near Somanya has led to the remand of a 45-year-old mason accused of defilement.
Richard Langma appeared before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court in the Eastern Region, where he pleaded not guilty to defilement of a child under 16 years.
The court, presided over by Mr Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo, remanded him into prison custody.
The case has been adjourned to July 13, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the child had been playing in the compound with another child on June 24, 2026, while her mother went indoors to rest because she was unwell.
The complainant, a 24-year-old trader, is said to be a relative of the accused.
Both lived in the same compound house at Ogome.
Assistant Superintendent of Police George Okrah Akomeah told the court that a witness later heard the child crying and raised concern.
A search was conducted, and the girl was allegedly found inside Langma’s room.
She was rescued and handed over to her mother.
The prosecution said the mother later noticed that the child was bleeding from her private part and reported the matter to police.
Police issued a medical report form for the child to be examined.
She was first taken to the Somanya Polyclinic and later referred to the Akuse Government Hospital for further examination and treatment.
She was treated and discharged the same day.
Langma was arrested later that day.
According to the prosecution, he allegedly told investigators that he acted because he believed the child had a spirit that needed to be removed.
He was subsequently charged and brought before the court.
The matter will return to court on July 13.
