A High Cout in Accra has adjourned to August 15, 2024, to formalize a proposed out-of-court settlement reached by the parties.
The case was scheduled to begin on July 31, but lawyers for the plaintiff announced in court the sudden development.
The actress' legal team led by Nii Apatu Plange thus sought an adjournment to finalize the agreement.
Martha Ankomah initiated legal action against Lil Win for defamatory remarks he made in a viral video. Lil Win commented about Ankomah’s prominence in the film industry in this video.
The lawsuit, filed on February 14, 2024, claims that Lil Win’s statements have harmed her reputation and that of the GTP brand.
Ankomah alleges that Lil Win falsely accused her of looking down on Kumawood actors and refusing to work with them due to their perceived subpar storylines.
She is thus seeking among others GH¢5 million in damages for defamation and Compensatory damages for harm to her reputation.
The lawsuit stems from an incident during a radio interview on Accra FM, where Ankomah expressed reluctance to collaborate with Kumawood actors due to an aversion to witchcraft-themed storylines. Lil Win responded angrily, making statements that Ankomah claims are defamatory.
Ankomah’s statement of claim highlights her long and respected career in the film industry, her ambassadorial roles, and the negative impact of Lil Win’s statements on her reputation.
She stresses that she has never made derogatory comments about Kumawood or its storylines, contrary to Lil Win’s claims.
