The Donkorkrom Magistrate Court has sentenced an ex-convict, Benjamin Amaoko, to six months in prison with hard labour, for impersonation and defrauding a customer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The accused pleaded guilty to the offense of defrauding by false pretence.

According to Prosecutor Superintendent Samuel Entsua-Annan on February 14, Amoako went to the house of the complainant at Bruben, near Donkorkrom in the Afram Plains North District, acting as an ECG employee.

The complainant is said to have issued an amount of GH¢200 to the accused to offset an outstanding payment and prevent him from disconnecting the power supply. The accused was to settle the bill and produce a receipt at a later date.

Prosecutors also told the court that the accused later presented an electricity bill without proper payment receipt.

The situation led to a misunderstanding between the complainant and the accused, which then attracted the attention of residents.

The Assemblymember for the area is said to have called on the police to arrest Amoako and his alleged accomplice, Michael Aledzi, a motorbike operator.

Michael Aledzi who pleaded not guilty has been remanded into police custody to reappear on March 15, 2022.
