A 48-year-old carpenter has been sentenced to a prison term of 20-years for defiling a 12-year-old girl with a special condition known as hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus is an abnormal build-up of fluid in the brain, a condition that can lead to impaired vision, cognitive difficulties, and other effects.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Henry Doku told the court due to the victim’s condition, she’s unable to talk or walk on her own.

The accused, Sampson Dei, also happens to be a friend to the victim’s family. He is said to pay regular visits to the victim’s mother.

According to the police, he was arrested after the grandmother of the victim reported she caught him in the act.

When he appeared before the Kpando Circuit Court, he pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

Delivering the sentence, the presiding judge, Francis Asong Obuajo noted that the accused showed remorse, and in addition to not wasting the court’s time, was handed a 20-year jail term.
