A High Court in Accra has sentenced a 33-year-old man to five years imprisonment for vandalizing multiple vehicles at the Parliament premises.

On Wednesday, December 18, Christopher Kofi Kyere Sorkpa, dressed in white, reportedly smashed the windscreens and windows of about seven cars parked near the parliamentary buildings. Witnesses suggested that Sorkpa might have been mentally unstable, though his reasons for the act remain unknown.

Facing six charges, including conspiracy to commit unlawful damage, Sorkpa pleaded guilty during a hearing on Friday, December 20, 2024. His admission prompted the presiding judge, Samuel Bright Asiedu, to issue the prison sentence.

The incident, which caused significant damage to the vehicles, drew widespread criticism.

Another suspect, Wisdom Ahli, has been remanded in police custody for his alleged involvement. His case is scheduled for further hearing on January 9, 2025.
