A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling an 11-year-old girl at Digangan, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.

Tibini Atta was convicted by the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on Friday, September 25, 2026, after pleading guilty to the offence.

The Northern Regional Police Command said the incident happened on Thursday, September 24, when the victim reportedly went to a farm with the convict.

Police said Atta had sexual intercourse with the girl, leaving her with injuries that required medical attention.

The case was reported to the Kpandai Police at about 2:55 p.m. by the victim’s uncle, Desmond Mulache, a 25-year-old farmer.

The victim was first taken to the Kpandai District Hospital, where she was admitted and treated.

Investigators who later visited the hospital were informed by the attending nurse that the girl would be referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital because of the nature of her injuries.

Atta was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit in Tamale has since visited the victim at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Police say she is responding to treatment and her condition is being closely monitored.
