Man bites off wife’s ear in domestic clash

A man identified as Emmanuel Addai has allegedly bitten off his wife’s ear in a shocking case of domestic violence.

The incident took place at “Wonkayaw,” a community within the Dambai township of the Krachi East Municipality in the Oti Region.

Madam Cecilia Fordjour, the 46-year-old wife, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that her husband bit off her ear during a heated confrontation.

Narrating the ordeal, Madam Fordjour explained that the clash erupted after she had cooked for the household and was spending time with the children. Her husband, she said, had just returned from a funeral in the vicinity.

She alleged that while she was preparing to serve him food, “without any provocation, her husband demanded she leave the house immediately.”

According to her, matters escalated quickly, and her husband launched an assault, during which he bit off her ear in addition to other physical attacks.

She further recalled that when they later visited a private facility, the KOPAH Clinic, carrying the severed ear, medical staff told them it could not be reattached. This, she explained, was because “reattachment was unlikely due to the prolonged delay in the house. The ear could no longer be saved.”

The matter has since been reported to the Krachi East Police Command, which has begun investigations.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Al-Hassan Abdu-Rzak, the Divisional Crime Officer at the Dambai Command, confirmed the development to the GNA.

ASP Abdul-Razak revealed that the victim first lodged a complaint at the police station, after which the husband also reported, claiming he had also been assaulted. “Medical forms were issued to both individuals,” he stated.

He added that the police would proceed with investigations once both parties are discharged from the hospital. According to him, the next step would be to review the medical reports and gather additional evidence to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event.
