The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has reiterated the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) unwavering commitment to the Anti-Gay Bill, emphasizing that the party’s position has remained unchanged since the last election.
His comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s recent proposal, suggesting that a government-led bill could be more effective than the existing Private Member’s Bill. According to President Mahama, a state-backed initiative would allow for broader consultations and foster stronger national consensus on the matter.
During a meeting with the Bishops on Tuesday, January 14, the President also stressed the importance of revising the school curriculum to integrate moral and cultural education. This, he argued, would reinforce Ghanaian and African values among young learners.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, January 27, Mahama Ayariga explained that any legislative proposals not finalized within a parliamentary term typically become void, along with the administration that introduced them.
Reaffirming the NDC’s consistent support for the bill, he dismissed suggestions of a policy shift.
