Mahama to convene emergency meeting with CJ, AG to discuss public fund mismanagement
Speaking at the 12th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards and Chief Executives of Public Services in Ho on Wednesday, October 8, President Mahama said the engagement seeks to establish a fast-track accountability system
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to convene a high-level meeting today, Thursday, October 9, with the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and other key governance actors to craft a decisive and lasting response to the recurring mismanagement of public funds revealed in successive Auditor-General’s reports.
Speaking at the 12th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards and Chief Executives of Public Services in Ho on Wednesday, October 8, President Mahama said the engagement seeks to establish a fast-track accountability system to ensure swift prosecution and sanctions for officials implicated in financial malfeasance.
Expressing frustration over the annual exposure of financial irregularities before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), he lamented what he termed a “pathetic” pattern of fiscal recklessness.
According to the President, the total value of reported financial irregularities now stands at GH¢15 billion, a figure he described as alarming. He argued that the nation could have recorded major progress in infrastructure and social development had such sums been prudently managed.
President Mahama further revealed that government will soon activate constitutional provisions mandating Parliament to establish a standing committee to enforce the Auditor-General’s recommendations — a reform he said has been long overdue.
The President’s initiative signals an effort to move beyond exposés to enforcement, setting the stage for what could become one of the most consequential anti-corruption reforms of his administration.
