President John Dramani Mahama has appointed legal academic Dr. Francis Kofi Korankye-Sakyi as the first acting executive secretary of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, in a move aimed at making Ghana’s alternative justice framework fully operational.

The appointment was made under Article 195(1) and Section 117(1)(e) of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010 (Act 798), which created the center but left it without full administrative momentum for years.

That momentum picked up in July 2024 when the centre’s first governing board was inaugurated, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Jones Victor Dotse.

Dr Korankye-Sakyi is a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and also teaches part-time at the University of Ghana. He has previously received professional training at Harvard Law School and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, according to the published profile accompanying the announcement.

As acting executive secretary, he will be responsible for running the centre’s day-to-day work and maintaining the official register of arbitrators and mediators, which is intended to give courts, businesses and the public a clear way to verify accredited neutrals.

Dr Korankye-Sakyi already sits on the board as a representative of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and has said his priority is to build a faster dispute-resolution pipeline that can reduce pressure on the courts and improve turnaround times for commercial cases.
