Lawyer to seeks bail for ‘Sexy Dondon,’ cites hardship in custody
During proceedings at the High Court, defense attorney Yaw Dankwah expressed doubts about the prosecution’s preparedness for the retrial. He indicated that he would formally submit a bail application before the next adjourned date, urging the court to consider his client’s situation.

The legal representative of Daniel Asiedu, also known as ‘Sexy Dondon,’ has announced plans to apply for bail, arguing that his client is facing severe difficulties while in custody.
Asiedu is currently on trial for the alleged murder of J.B. Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, who was fatally stabbed.
During proceedings at the High Court, defense attorney Yaw Dankwah expressed doubts about the prosecution’s preparedness for the retrial. He indicated that he would formally submit a bail application before the next adjourned date, urging the court to consider his client’s situation.
Dankwah also sought clarification on whether the retrial would continue in the same court.
His remarks followed submissions from the prosecution, represented by Assistant State Attorney Fredrick Adu-Gyamfi, who was holding brief for Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batsa. According to Adu-Gyamfi, the prosecution had received instructions confirming their readiness to proceed with the retrial.
Following the exchanges, the court, presided over by Justice Kizita Koowa Naa Quarshie, postponed the hearing for two weeks.
Asiedu’s retrial comes after nearly nine years of legal proceedings related to the killing of the MP at his residence in February 2016. He faces charges of robbery and murder.
On December 4, 2024, an Accra High Court ordered a retrial after a seven-member jury returned a 4-3 verdict on both charges.
The MP was brutally murdered at his home in Shiashie, near East Legon in Accra, on February 9, 2016.
