Legal action may be taken against investigative outlet The Fourth Estate after lawyers for Frank Oliver Kpodo said a report about alleged unearned salaries has severely damaged his name.

His lawyer, Prince Ganaku, says the option of going to court is now being seriously examined, even though a final decision has not yet been made by the client.

The dispute follows a publication that linked Mr Kpodo to an alleged GH¢427 million in unearned salary payments said to have been received between January 2023 and June 2025.

That claim, however, was later undercut by a clarification from the Auditor-General’s Service, which said the figure was wrong and had resulted from a data entry mistake.

For the legal team, that admission may have corrected the record, but it has not undone the public fallout.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr Ganaku said the reputational injury to his client had already taken hold, particularly after the story spread widely online and provoked strong public reaction.

He argued that the harm goes beyond temporary criticism on social media, saying the publication could continue to shadow Mr Kpodo in his professional life and affect how he is viewed in future dealings.

The lawyers are also urging the Auditor-General’s Service to tighten its internal checks, warning that errors of that scale can inflict lasting damage when they find their way into the public domain.

Although the institution has apologised, the defence team’s position is that the apology alone cannot fully repair the injury already done.
