One of Ghana’s leading law firms, Bentsi-Enchill Letsa and Ankomah (BELA) is set to hold a memorial lecture in honour of its late founder and prominent lawyer, Kojo Bentsi-Enchill on May 26, 2022.

Titled, ‘The Kojo Bentsi-Enchill Memorial Lecture’, the event would happen at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra and online via zoom.

“In honour of the memory of Kojo Bentsi-Enchill (our founding partner) and to celebrate his passion and efforts towards the development of Ghanaian law and practice, we will be launching the Kojo Bentsi-Enchill Memorial Lectures on Thursday, 26 May 2022 between 8am and 1pm GMT at the Kempinski Hotel, Accra (Adlon Ballroom 1 & 2),” the firm indicated on its Facebook page.

The lecture will also have retired Justice of Ghana’s Supreme Court and international academic, Professor Justice Samuel Date-Bah to speak on the topic, ‘Fashioning a Regulatory Regime for Distressed Companies.’

Overall, the event is being held under the theme, “The Evolution of the Regulation of Commerce in Ghana.”

The late Kojo Bentsi-Enchill died shortly after an illness in February last year. But as a legacy that he has lived, his influence on the development of the legal profession especially with digitization isn’t forgotten.

He is a known name for his digitization of law reports, journals, and other legal materials in Ghana.

“He set out to improve the legal system itself by building Datacenta into the preeminent digital legal publishing house, publishing the law reports of Ghana as well as legislation & subordinate legislation. He even completed a legal dictionary for Ghana,” Prof Victor Essien, his law school mate in the US during the 1980s and a close friend recounted in a tribute last year.

He founded the firm in 1988 with his law faculty colleague, Divine Letsa. Bentsi-Entsill, Letsa Ankomah is highly recognised both locally and internationally.

The firm in a statement noted that: “Kojo’s fearless spirit, rigorous work ethic and unwavering integrity will forever be the foundation of the firm. It is hard to overstate Kojo’s impact on the development of legal practice in Ghana and to the continued success of the firm.”
