Police have arrested a 43-year-old landlord, Yaw Owusu, for allegedly stabbing his tenant to death during a heated confrontation at Awerempe in the Berekum West District.

The victim, Bright Abotsi, aged 25, was rushed to the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, according to a statement issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, after the landlord accused the deceased of stealing two mobile phones, leading to a violent altercation. Police say Owusu allegedly stabbed Abotsi in the chest, inflicting a fatal wound.

Investigators were alerted by Comfort Nyanta, the deceased’s 40-year-old sister, who reported the matter to the police. Officers responding to the scene found the victim’s body soaked in blood with a deep cut to the upper right chest.

The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The suspect, Yaw Owusu, is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Authorities say preparations are underway to prosecute him once investigations conclude.
