The Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has responded to concerns raised by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) regarding the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the new Registrar of Births and Deaths.

In a letter dated March 7 and addressed to CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Pelpuo acknowledged the association’s reservations and confirmed that discussions are ongoing with relevant stakeholders to find a resolution.

He clarified that CLOGSAG’s concerns are not about the President’s authority to appoint but rather the perception that the appointee is politically aligned. The minister urged the association to reconsider its stance, calling for an end to their strike to allow members to return to work.

Dr. Pelpuo assured that the grievances raised would be duly noted and communicated to the President for future consideration.

CLOGSAG had earlier petitioned against Mr. Botchway’s appointment, arguing that political influence in public service appointments undermines neutrality. The association remains firm in its demand for a review of the decision.
