Kwadwo Akofena, 8 others granted bail over Adwoa Safo shooting incident
Each of the accused persons was granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties.
Nine persons charged in connection with a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo have been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court.
Each of the accused persons was granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties.
The court directed them to sign bail justification forms as part of the conditions.
The sureties, however, are not required to be justified.
All nine accused persons pleaded not guilty to five charges.
The charges include possession and use of offensive weapons, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging firearms in public and causing unlawful damage.
The case is linked to a dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Prosecutors say the shooting occurred during activities connected to a contested installation process within the religious organisation.
The incident allegedly resulted in injuries to Ms Adwoa Safo.
Among the accused persons is Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, a brother of the former MP.
Others charged include Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam.
The rest are Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom.
Some of the accused persons are said to be linked to the leadership structure or security arrangements of the group.
The shooting incident has attracted public attention because of the ongoing leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission and the family of the late founder.
The dispute has already triggered court proceedings over the succession process.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
The court is expected to continue hearing the matter as prosecutors gather further evidence on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
