The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr.Osei-Assibey Antwi has urged one of his competitors in the race for the position of mayor; Mr. Kusi Boafo, who is the Chief Executive officer of the Public Sector Reforms to retract allegations made against him or face prosecution.

The Mayor has given Mr.Kusi Boafo, a 14-day ultimatum to retract false and derogatory remarks he made against him, else he would seek redress in court. The 14-day ultimatum took effect from May 29, 2021.

According to the lawyers of the Mayor; Koffie and Partners Mr. Kusi Boafo dented the image of their client on an Accra- based Radio station, Oman FM.

Mr. Kusi Boafo is alleged to have made two wild and unfounded statements about Osei-Assibey.

The head of the Public Sector reforms who is also vying for the position of the KMA Boss said,

 “Osei-Assibey said he had given money to Kennedy Agyapong to be given to me as a bribe” according to the solicitors of Osei-Assibey.

Furthermore, Kusi Boafo is being accused to have said on the said radio station,

“Osei-Assibey has rented all radio stations, including Ashh FM, and placed people on them to verbally abuse me”.

But the Mayor of the KMA has through his lawyers, stated that there is no iota of truth in the two wild allegations and that they are unfortunate and false allegations made against their client.

The New Patriotic Party had started vetting candidates who have filed to contest for positions as heads of the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country.

Meanwhile, four out of nine persons who applied for the KMA position have been shortlisted for national vetting.

They are; Hon. Collins Amankwah, former Manhyia North member of parliament, scored 91 points at the regional vetting, Thomas Kusi Boafo scored 64 points, followed by Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP with 54 points and Osei-Assibey Antwi, the KMA Boss garnering 52 points according to certified results from the Kumasi Metropolis.
