Police in Kumasi have arrested one suspect after an Indian national who had earlier been reported missing was found dead in the boot of his vehicle.

The deceased, identified as Devendra Singh, was discovered on 25 April after police received information that his car had been abandoned near Royal Lemosey Hospital on the outskirts of Sabin Akrofuom.

Officers who went to the scene found the vehicle parked by the roadside. A search of the car then led to the discovery of Singh’s body in the boot, with multiple stab wounds, according to a statement issued by the police.

The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, said police had already begun efforts to trace the businessman after he was reported missing.

Following the discovery, the Ashanti Regional Crime Scene Management Team processed the area, while the body was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police have also impounded the vehicle as part of the investigation.

The case has now drawn the attention of the top police hierarchy. The Inspector-General of Police has directed a special team of intelligence officers and homicide investigators to support the Ashanti Regional Police Command in tracking down everyone connected to the killing.

Police say one person is already in custody and assisting with enquiries, while further efforts are underway to identify and arrest any other suspects.
