The Krachi East Municipality is witnessing a worrying escalation in fraud-related offences, with over 100 reported incidents within the first nine months of the year, according to police authorities.

Revealing the data at a community accountability and engagement forum, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul-Razak Alhassan, the Divisional Crime Officer at Dambai, said the municipality had recorded 103 cases of breach of trust, marking a significant jump compared to previous years.

ASP Alhassan described the trend as deeply troubling, noting that the majority of victims were defrauded by acquaintances or individuals in whom they had placed confidence. The scams, he explained, ranged from embezzlement and misappropriation to false investment promises, leaving residents financially drained and emotionally scarred.

He urged citizens to remain alert and sceptical, especially when approached with offers that sound too good to be true, assuring that the police are pursuing all leads to arrest and prosecute offenders.

The engagement programme formed part of a national drive to promote transparency, local accountability, and participatory governance. It drew together traditional rulers, public sector directors, and civic stakeholders to examine key developmental concerns in the municipality.

The event was characterised by cultural pageantry and civic dialogue, with chiefs resplendent in traditional regalia seated beside government representatives—an image symbolising the harmony between cultural heritage and contemporary governance in addressing community issues.
