KNUST student and alumnus remanded over Conti-Katanga clash

The Asokore Mampong Magistrate Court has remanded into police custody an old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a second-year student of the same school, following last week’s rioting between two halls of the school. 

Announced in a police statement, the accused persons, Daniel Osei and Francis Tutu Atuahene will make their next court appearance on September 8, 2022.

“Suspect Daniel Osei Bonsu alias Saint, a former student of the university who completed in the year 2020 was also captured with others destroying property on the university campus. Suspect Francis Tutu Atuahene, alias Aroma, who is a level-200 student of the university was captured in a video holding an offensive weapon among others during the riot,” the statement noted.

Relatedly, a second-year student was yesterday, remanded by the same court for threatening to stab to death, five students of the Continental Hall of the university. 

Police say this brings to three, the number of suspects arrested and that as investigations are still ongoing, other perpetrators will be arrested.
