KNUST Law Dean to speak at public lecture in honour of Baffour Osei Akoto
The lecture will be held at the KNUST Law Auditorium and on the theme, ‘Human Rights Activisim and Freedom in Modern Ghana – The Role of Baffour Osei Akoto.’.
The Dean of the Law Faculty at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Ernest Owusu Dapaa, is set to speak on September 1, 2022, at the public lecture to mark the life of the late Okyeame Baffour Osei Akoto.
The lecture will be held at the KNUST Law Auditorium and on the theme, ‘Human Rights Activisim and Freedom in Modern Ghana – The Role of Baffour Osei Akoto.’
It is one among a number of activities to commemorate 20 years of the late Baffour Osei Akoto.
A book titled "BAFFOUR OSEI AKOTO: A ROYAL PATRIOT AND THE MAKING OF GHANA"celebrating the life and legacy of Late Baffour Osei Akoto is set to be launched in Accra on August 31, 2022, at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The late Baffour Osei Akoto is particularly connected to the famous case of Re: Akoto & 7 others, which is noted to have set grounds for the future formulation of fundamental human rights enshrined in chapter 5 of the 1992 Constitution.
The Ghana School of Law also holds annual lectures – the Re: Akoto memorial lecture, to commemorate the significance of the case of “RE: AKOTO AND 7 OTHERS”.
The Memorial Lecture instituted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as life patron of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana School of Law, is designed to promote research, study and educate the citizenry on the development of Ghana’s constitutional democracy and human and people’s rights.
