Know the 11-member Constitution Review Implementation Committee
The committee is expected to guide the next phase of the constitutional review process after government issued its position paper on the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee chaired by Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh.
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has inaugurated an 11-member Constitution Review Implementation Committee to work on proposals for reviewing Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
The committee is expected to guide the next phase of the constitutional review process after government issued its position paper on the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee chaired by Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh.
The new body will examine both the government’s position paper and the earlier committee report.
It will then develop a framework for turning the accepted recommendations into concrete proposals and actions.
Presidential Legal Counsel and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, chairs the committee.
The other members are Dr Justice Srem Sai, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Charlotte Osei, Dr Rainer Akumperigya, Emelia Ankomah, Kwame Ayimadu Antwi, Samuel Passah, Oliver Baker Vormawor, Salamatu Iliasu and Eric Owusu-Mensa.
Emelia Ankomah represents the Majority in Parliament, while Kwame Ayimadu Antwi represents the Minority.
Samuel Passah represents local government, with Eric Owusu-Mensa serving as Parliament’s representative.
Oliver Baker Vormawor is the Secretary to the committee, while Salamatu Iliasu serves as Draftsperson.
Government says the committee’s work forms part of efforts to ensure that the constitutional reform process is inclusive, transparent and reflective of the aspirations of Ghanaians.
The exercise is also expected to contribute to strengthening democratic governance and improving the country’s constitutional framework.
The inauguration marks a fresh step in the review process, following the submission of recommendations by the Constitution Review Committee and government’s consideration of those proposals.
