The High Court in Accra has issued a trial warrant for an 18-year-old involved in the ongoing Kasoa ritual murder case to be kept at the Nsawam Prison.

The Presiding judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo made this order after a request from the state in that regard.

The 18-year-old  who was being kept at the at Osu Police station, is said to have fought with other inmates thus necessitating the request.

When the case was called on Monday, June 24, 2024, Senior state attorney Nana Adoma Osei relayed that officers at the Osu Police Station requested that the second accused not return to their custody post-court session.

She thus sought a trial warrant for him to be remanded in prison instead.

This was however opposed by the accused's counsel, Lawrence Boampong Wireko since the trial was nearly over, with only summing up and the jury's verdict pending.

However, in her ruling, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo issued a trial warrant for the second accused to be kept at Nsawam Prison and brought to court by prison officers as required.

The case, which is at the stage of summing up and the final verdict by the jury had to be adjourned once again to July 8, 2024, in expectation that the jurors would have resumed from their strike action.

The 18-year-old, the second accused, is on trial with a 15-year-old juvenile (the first accused) for the murder of 10-year-old Ishmael Mensah Abdella in Kasoa.

The two are facing charges of conspiracy and murder before the High Court in Accra.

While the 15-year-old juvenile has confessed to the crime, stating they "committed the crime together," the second accused denies the charges.
