The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has declared a nationwide strike effective Tuesday, October 7, 2025, citing months of unpaid salaries, stalled postings, and what it describes as continued unfair treatment by the state.

In a statement issued on October 2, and signed by its President, Dr. Louisa Afia Nkrumah, and General Secretary, Dr. Rhoda Wun-nam Amadu, the Association revealed that more than 200 junior doctors have worked for between 10 and 14 months without pay. The group further alleged that salaries of some medical officers already on the government payroll have been suspended without explanation.

The JDA also highlighted that over 800 medical officers have been awaiting posting for more than 16 months despite repeated engagements with the Ministry of Health.

According to the Association’s directive, outpatient services will be suspended from October 7 to 9. From Friday, October 10, emergency services will also be withdrawn until further notice. Current inpatients will continue to receive care until discharge, but no new admissions will be accepted.

The Association held the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana fully responsible for the disruption of healthcare services, calling for urgent intervention to resolve the impasse.
